The Bali Strait, Gilimanuk, and the quiet road to Ubud
The Ketapang ferry queue was shorter than I expected. Half an hour at the dock, forty-five minutes on the strait, and suddenly every number plate said DK. Gilimanuk greeted me with harbour wind and the smell of dried fish.
The rest was a long, calm road: Negara, Pekutatan, Tabanan. A small temple at every bend, offerings on the roadside, and a bike that had to slow down to pass them. In Ubud, Dinda was waiting with coffee and the map for the next route: Bali to Rote Island.
Summary
Twelve days from Jakarta, about 1,500 kilometers. Two planned stops skipped and two new ones added, and that turned out to be the best part of the story.
